My vet definitely uses Atropine combined with a drug called Domitor as the
anesthetic.   The main reason for using the atropine for debarks is that it
decreases
saliva flow.   The domitor is used because there is a readily available
antidote to
wake them up.   He tells me there are times when he would use Atropine to
treat
shock.  But on a limited basis, since it actually slows the heart rate. His
drug
of choice for shock is Epinephrine in most cases.   Sorry I did not give you
specifics
the first time.  But felt all vets would know anesthesia details.  I was
mainly trying
to get accross the fact the dogs are only out for about 10 minutes, because
they
do not use a general anesthesia.   This has worked so well for us over the
years
that we use the same drugs if we have to do Hip x-rays, etc.    Hope this
