[PyrNet-L] Re: Head Type

Head type, like beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Recognizing this we
must try to see what dogs from France looked like that pleased Monsieur Senac-
Lagrange. I can tell you that he liked dogs that looked like dogs Mary Crane
imported fro de Soum kennels i.e Urdos de Soum and Bazen de Soum (Mrs. Crane
did not import him as he actually preceeded Mrs. Cranes imports but did end up
at Cote de Neige where we was important). We should also look at Estat
d'Argeles and his brother Estagel and certainly should look at their
grandfather Ibos de Val d'Aure. All were imported by Mrs. Crane. Bitches
look at Ariel de Soum and Estilou de Langladure as they were legends of breed
beauty. We are very fortunate that due to the resourses and dedication of
Mrs. Crane that much of that great "type" stock ended up here in North America
and contrary to some misguided criticisms of this stock is still regarded as
"ideal" type even by its detractors by their judging when visiting as a Judge.

You see much the same in the mature French dogs and people like Ian who have
to operate within a very restricted gene pool for quaranteen purposes are able
to breed extremely correct type from what is available. Many years ago, I was
told in a group that the Pyrenean Head was lost. This was a lady with many
years experience who should know. She was wrong. It may have been lost to
her, but it is still with us. We can find it if we care too. It is still
among us and as beautiful as ever. Look at and study your old "ideals" and
compare. They all come from France.
