RE: [PyrNet-L] Dew Claws

Joe, I read your comments with interest. I have heard of a number of Great Pyr pet owners having
dew claws removed at the urging/insistence of their vets. This has not been my experience with the
Berger.

The CKC standard, which has been adopted from the FCI standard states:

The rear legs can display single or double dewclaws. Since this in an age old feature of the
shepherd breeds, preference should be given to dogs having dewclaws.

While not stated as a disqualification, absence of dewclaws certainly would be treated as a fault.
I have had pups born with single dewclaws, I am not aware of pups within my circle of
breeders/knowledge being born without dewclaws at all.
