Re: [PyrNet-L] CHAT: Tatra breed

In a message dated 98-07-08 08:55:41 EDT, you write:

<< Look like Pyrs but there are some differences. Not
permitted to have any color patches on the ears as
Pyrs can have. Also character is more primitive in
nature. Coat is a tad softer in texture, however
they tend to be more tight lipped with less drooling,
and they live longer than the average Pyr.

We have a Tatra and have been familiar some with
 Pyr's. They are cousins. >>

They are very similar and are surely a close if not the closest relative to
the Pyr. Even the "biscuit" color seen on some is Blaireau i.e. the color
does not go all the way to the skin. Check it out, I had a Tatra owner
confirm it to me. Additionally they do come with double dew claws, although
they are not required.

I am sorry to say your comment about tight lipped and drooling is probably
true, but it should not be. If you look at the dogs from France ( the good
ones) you will see a different head confirmation. This does exist here in
North America, but not as common. The old pictures from the late 1800's and
early 1900's tell me the tight lips are historically correct. Also all the
writing by Senac-Lagrange and other authorities of the RACP confirm same. I
would hope breeders of Pyrs would note your comment and reflect upon it as,
IMHO it is a sign of a deviation from the correct breed standard and
confirmation.
