Re: [PyrNet-L] about puppy stories
Great Pyrs, and Tatras genetically have been raised
on very similar diets over the centuries. Shepherds
were not wealthy and they tended to feed them old
bread crusts, curd, leftover cheese, leftover butter,
goats milk and sometimes sheep/goat/beef scraps.
One big problem that I can see with the diet you
listed is that the puppies growth will be
accelerated. He isn't going grow much larger than
his genetic code has determined however making their
poor bodies grow more younger has had a lot of
support by vets and researchers that it causes bone
and joint problems later in life due to the stress.
Hip dysplasia and the like....but...I have been
involved in large dog rescues since 1982 but do not
have lots of Pyr exposure. So I forwarded the diet
you sent along with his size and age to two folks
that specialize in this and who I respect very much.
I will let you know what they say as they are not on
the list.
My pup was taken off high proteins, high octane foods
this week. The weening process to standard protein
contents began a week ago. So she is on standard
adult food 20% protein. She was being supplimented
with goats milk but that was due to her needing to
gain just a bit of weight. She is off of that now.
Will let you know what I find....in the meantime,
anyone else out there have any ideas???
