Have to agree that there's something wrong with determining unethical
puppy breeding/raising according to location such as a back yard! I too
use that term to characterize a neighbor who meets all the negative
criteria that have been named and breeds rotweilers (scary, huh?). But to
take the term literally, Paddington came from a "back yard breeder." Of
course, she was a referral from trustworthy professional breeders, and did
all the things we knew to expect--health tests, OFA, consultation with
breed experts and veterinarians, and education of prospective buyers from
the time she agreed to add our names to the list. So I guess we do need to
reconsider the term!
