Re: [PyrNet-L] Non-pyr: pit fightnig
There was a interesting news item on the TV last nite here
in Sacramento. Pit bull fighting is very much alive and well
in this area, and in this state that is illegal. The homes
where these dogs are housed and trained are raided by the
authorities and the dogs are taken. Excuses like they are
being bred and trained to fight elsewhere in places that
allow it doesn't work here. Recently a place was raided
and 18 Pit bulls were taken by the state. Yesterday,
it was reported that there was an "organized attempt by
other pit bull fighting groups" to retrieve the dogs. It was
stated that they were "highly valuable because of their
training in the pit." There was a burglary where all 18
pit bulls were taken last nite. As a coincidence, a driver
was reported driving erratically down the highway and
was stopped by the highway patrol. This was only a
hour after the burglary. The driver was found with all
18 pit bulls. There will be a criminal trial, where afterwards,
the dogs will most likely be put down. This post in not
meant to be a slam on pit bulls. Although I believe the breed
has been bred for aggression and personally would not trust
a pit bull to any degree, the ultimate reflection is on those
who have the mentality to pursue this "sport".
