The Bear Shape referenced is the European Brown Bear.  Much different from 
our Brown Bears, or Grizzly's (SP?).  The European was almost extinct.  It 
has been reintroduced into the Mountains, much to the dislike of some French 
Farmers.  The Pyr is once again protecting livestock from one of its century 
old traditional foe.

Long live the adversarial relationship (for the benefit of both species)!  
There is some information on the web about it, but I cannot reference it 
sitting here this morning.
