Only times I've ever eaten them are on New Year's Day. <g>  Husband 
litterally gorged himself with cornbread and black-eyed peas.  It is 
tradition in our family to have pork, cabbage (usually sauerkraut in Mom's 
case) and black-eyed peas on New Year's Day.  Mom says it brings good luck. 
<vbg>  I'm also supposed to put my billfold out on the front porch before 
midnight with money in it or be broke all year. <g>  Guess what I forgot to 
do? <lol>
