Had an interesting couple of experiences along this line.  One was a dog
presented to the vet clinic (I worked for a zillion years in vet clinics) as
a Golden Retriever.  I looked at the dog, wrote yellow lab, looked again,
erased the lab and wrote GR, then finally asked the owner.  She said it was
a "special" Golden Retriever (no kidding).  The AKC finally crunched down on
this breeder who was cross-breeding labs and ret.

A second time was a puppy mill--I saw an ad for a Bichon Frise in the paper
at a local pet shop.  This was in the '70 so Bichons were rare.  When I
stopped down at the shop, the "Bichon" was obviously a cross bred fox
terrier/Bichon being sold as pure Bichon.  I told the pet shop it was mixed
and they thanked me.........................yea......................
