RE: [PyrNet-L] underground fencing
We just put up an invisible fence last week for our 6 month old pyr puppy.
Our plan is to never leave her there when we are not at home because Pyrs
are not supposed to work well with these fences. With the initial training
she avoids the fence completely on a leash. However, she has jumped over
twice in excitement off-leash. Once because she was just running, another
time because there was a dog on the road.
The trainer from the company trimmed very little fur around her neck because
she was'nt feeling it at first.
She's doing fine so far but I'm not convinced yet that she'll stay in with
distractions. The setting is on the middle right now. We are using the
company "Invisible Fences" If you're interested, let me know again and I'll
let you know how it's going. Everyone on our street uses them and it works
well for their dogs (lab, mastiff).

Subject: [PyrNet-L] underground fencing
I am interested in hearing from folks who have actually used/are using
underground fencing for their dogs. I know that many people object to it
because they believe that it isn't ever a "safe" option, but I don't really
want to get into that debate ;-) Instead, I want to hear real-life
experiences. So, here are my questions:
1.)What has your experience been? which brand?
2.)What sort of guarantee should installers provide?
3.)Is it better to go with the local "name" provider or a one-person outfit
that is much cheaper?
4.) Do you shave your dogs' necks any to make the transmitter fit better?
5.)Do you find that you have to use a stronger collar with double-coated
breeds?
Thanks!
Katie
