Re: [PyrNet-L] Re: feeding raw eggs
<<Sorry, Tracy and all, but I have a problem with feeding uncooked any
portion of eggs. The increased incidence of Salmonella bacteria makes it a
bad idea to feed raw eggs, especially to pups.>>Jack (and I don't feed honey
to babies either) Mowery and Belle (is that why you didn't have eggnog for
New Years, daddy?) of the Amarillo Mts.
Do what you feel most comfortable with. Remember though that the digestive
tract of a dog is 'stronger' than that of a human. The intestines are also
shorter, so food passes through quicker. Dogs are by nature scavengers, and
their digestive tracts have been designed by nature to cope with all sorts
of 'nasties' much better than we can. And Salmonella is everywhere - on the
ground, in your kitchen, on your floors (yes, even if you clean them!).
There was even a recent Salmonella outbreak in alfalfa sprouts sold in the
US!
I know of many breeders (long timers - some of who feed mostly kibble) who
regularly use whole raw eggs for their pups from weaning with never a
problem. They are good nutrition. I have fed them myself for years with
never a problem (even when I fed kibble :-) ). And yes, I drink egg nog/egg
flips myself too :-)
