Re: [pyrnet] Staph Infections - Immune System

<<My questions are: is the inability to fight off the staph infection a sign
of a compromised immune system? I am concerned that this may lead to other
infections. Is this likely?>>Stephanie

IMO at the very least its persistence is a sign that the immune system it
not capable of getting rid of it. Whether other conditions will follow I
can not say (although as I said they can be a sign that things are not
working as they should). Working to boost your dogs immunity is one thing
would recommend. To that end I have attached a link to an article you can
read:

http://www3.sk.sympatico.ca/riverien/Nutri_understanding_immunity.htm

Another thing I will mention is a topical treatment that is making quite an
impact in human medicine at the moment in relation to treating things like
staph (including golden staph and streptococcus). The product is marketed
as "Medi-Honey" (note, I have no financial interest and have never used it -
just read with interest the reports on it). It is honey which is derived
from pollen from a particular bush (Leptospernum polygalifolium) only found
in a small part of Australia and New Zealand. All honey slows the growth of
bacteria (it was commonly used before antibiotics really came into popular
use), however this type is reported by researchers to have a particularly
potent antibacterial substance (a small sugar-like molecule). It has
confounded researchers who have been unable to isolate or concentrate its
properties - hence it is sold in its natural form.

I have a few reports on it here, and also saw some the other day on its use
in a hospital in the UK in particular on a patient will Meningicoccal (sp?)
infections that were basically eating his whole body away (basically his
body begain 'attacking' itself). He lost a leg and part of his hands before
they tried is and it basically saved his life according to the report.

I believe the product is being sold overseas so you may be able to find it
in a chemist (drugstore????) or through a supplier there. Otherwise I know
it is available from this Australian company: www.goldenglow.com.au
