Re: [pyrnet] Re: nightime woofers

And here I thought we were the only Pyr owner with a neighbor like yours.
After many months of trying everything to get Valjean to stop barking, we
finally started bringing him inside at night. He and the dogs two doors
down would carry on conversations at night but our next door neighbor only
called animal control on us. Now, she calls animal control during the day
because he barks at her when she comes outside. (He knows she can't stand
dogs) So, now we have to keep him in day and night. (It's not so bad now
since it's summer and we live in Atlanta.) Fortunately, animal control has
figured out that she just doesn't have enough to do as she has called three
times at night when Valjean has been inside sleeping but it is still a big
pain to have to go through the procedures of documenting when my dog is
inside and when he is out. I love when she goes out of town!

I called a local rescue person who told me I should never use barking
collars (never worked anyway) as it went against the Pyr's instinct to
protect. I guess she was right because after months of yelling at Valjean
to quit barking and bringing him in, we were burglarized in the middle of
the night while we slept. The burglar broke in (kicked the wooden bar from
behind the sliding glass door) through the room that Valjean was sleeping in
(on the couch mind you). Valjean never uttered a sound. Pretty ironic!
