Regarding the lab pup -- I'm a softy, and would probably take it in.  We have 
two females that can or are dog aggressive, and that certainly hasn't stopped 
us in any way.  What about contacting your vet?  Seeing it's a puppy, the vet 
may know of a suitable home.  I wouldn't leave it with your neighbors, as I 
don't think it will be long for this world.
