In general yes, but there is still a lot of size differences everywhere that
are equally correct. The big difference is the appearance. Too many times
here, the dogs are heavy and round. In France the good dogs are heavy but
tall and elegant. They do not have huge bone (moderate bone is correct) and
the less they look like St. Bernards the better. Their looks (elegance) do
not convey the massive nature of them until you are really in their presence.
They, in France, of course have smaller dogs and they can look quite small
to the eye. Too much emplysis on large being heavy and round in the breed.

He is also the sire of the bitch, Ribere de Neouvielle, that Janet, Joan, and
Maureen now own, that I brought back in April. We do have some excellent
dogs here, but way in the minority.
