Re: [pyrnet] help blood samples need for DNA

Hi Joe
Multifocal retropathy is an eye problem. Great Pyrenees are the only breed
to have this. It is inherit. It is autosomal recessive. It can be picked up
at 12 to 13 weeks of age with an eye examination. So far to date none have
developed it after this time. A puppy can be normal at 8 weeks and then
have it at 12 weeks. It takes an eye exam to find it. The amount of vision
impairment varies to the degree that the dog has the disease. To date I have
not seen a blind dog with it but that does not mean there are none. They
seem to walk or run with there heads closer to the ground at in twilight
conditions. I have housed the research animals for Dr Grahn and can say that
the ones we have had here can function in a pet environment. One of the
original dogs was a working sheep dog when we found her. I have seen it in
various pedigrees. We have seen it in show dogs, working dogs and companion
dogs.
