[pyrnet] Fw: More TX Flood News ( long)

This came off another list. Barb

. TX RESCUE RELIEF EFFORT
This is the website that has been set up
http://www.geocities.com/tprrf/

A link there will allow a paypal donation. If you want more
information,
you can contact Maggie at (254-739-3613) or email her at
tenspeed@glade.net
More info on the situation below:

This is from Maggie Deaton, cocker rescue in the Dallas
area,<Yes, Laurel.... in fact I have ben helping Adele get the
accounts set up and the word out about the need for help and
donations of both hard goods and cash. Adele is on the Baord of
the Houston Dog Rescue Alliance
as well as being a 501c3 rescue for Brittanys. The funds and
goods will be
diespersed on a most needed basis for the animals... Spindletop
has 150
dogs in its rescue and has had 3-5 feet of water on most of their
property....
not surprisingly, they are devastated though no pups were lost.
Pam Batley who does Great Pyr rescue as well as goats lost one of
her dogs who refused to
leave his flock of goats and was swept away in the waters with
all the goats
who were lost. The rest of the pups have been recovered but are
bedraggled,
muddied, and in need of food and meds. MANY of the Houston
Rescues are in much the same condition. The SPCA and Humane
societies are packed as flood victims pets have been taken there
to be held until they can return home with their families. So the
only help for rescues at this juncture is through the efforts of
other rescues and rescue friendly donors.... Adele is totally
trustworthy and I have had the pleasure of working with her many
times. Kim Myers in the Dallas area is collecting hard goods and
they will be flown free of charge by her employers, Southwest
Airlines, once
transport can be done in the Houston area. Some roads are
open.... other
areas are not. Please crosspost and let me know if any other info
is needed!
Thanks!

This is from Adel Shutes, Brittany rescue, who is working
together with
Maggie and others to help the rescues in the flood zones.

<The funds will go to those most in need to purchase medical
supplies,food
(if necessary - a lot of food is being donated) and other
necessary supplies
that were lost, either destroyed, ruined or washed away in the
flood waters.
Leah has about 150 dogs; Mr. K's has about 65 dogs (not counting
the 9 I
have out there, but I am responsible for their care and feeding
and I don't need anything) and I don't even know how many cats
they are feeding in the shelter. (by the way, I just got off the
phone with Jackie McNew - and on top of everything else, her car
was stolen last night!) They lost all their food stores, and cat
litter. Pam Batley has 9 dogs, 4 cats and 3 orphaned kittens
she's caring for, and I am leaving now to drive into town and
take food to her. Their home is destroyed, and she lost most of
her goats and a senior Pyr to drowning. Their furniture is
destroyed, and she's hopeful
that her washing machine, refrigerator, etc. hasn't been ruined
and will work because she has no clothes. We may end up buying
her a washer/dryer, and hopefully FEMA can lend some financial
aid... through all this Pam is very worried about several of her
neighbors on fixed incomes. There are others in need as well that
have been unable to check in because so many phone lines are
down - and some cell phones... mine isn't doing
me much good right now because Sprint had a server or switch or
something that
was flooded out. I have to run. I'm sorry we can say exactly
who will get
what at this point, because we simply don't know who all needs
what yet.
Maggie,
I am placing the names of contributors on the website as they
come in. I wish there was some other way to thank them, but we
want them to know how much their generosity is appreciated - and
how heartening it is to everyone knowing that people DO care!
Gotta run. Will be offline for several hours now - don't know
how difficult it will be to negotiate the streets once I get to
Houston. Hugs!

Subject: Re: [BSLProactive] Spindletop Update

<First let me thank everyone for all of the responses and
concern. I'm sorry for the delay in updating everyone but I've
been on the road and I'm now trying to get ready to go to
Houston. The good news is the water has receded and the storm has
moved on. The very good news is all the animals and people at
Spindletop came through the flood except for Leah's pond fish who
appear to have made a break for freedom.
The bad news is the flood rose to about 5 feet on most of the
property while it was at its worst. There is a large amount of
damage. They lost their air conditioning unit, lawnmower, various
tools, and some of the larger auction items that were donated.
They lost all their gravel
and everything is muddy. If anyone knows of someone who can
donate gravel or at least sell it at a reduced amount please let
Leah know. They will need an electrician to check and repair the
electric and breaker box since the breaker box was under water.
The two trucks will need repairs and the insides will need to be
cleaned since they were under water. They can do a lot of the
work but will need supplies and some things like the electric and
the vehicle interiors will need to be done by
professionals. The two front kennel buildings will need a lot of
repair. It sounds like they'll basically need to be rebuilt. She
can also use a new cordless phone if anybody has a spare. She
dropped one of her phones in the water while rescuing one of her
pigs from the water.
For the dogs she needs crates, carpet remnants, blankets, toys,
food, treats and any other dog supplies you can think of.
Anything she can't use will be shared or exchanged with other
rescues or will be used for the fundraising auction on ebay. All
donations of food, goods and
money will be gratefully accepted. Money can be sent by mail or
by paypal. The
address to send money to Spindletop's paypal account is:

 Spindletop's website addresses are:

Those of you who know Leah know that she keeps an immaculate
kennel. She is already hard at work trying to clean and put it
back into as good order as possible until all the repairs can
gradually be done. She is doing all of this with help from her
husband and kennel workers but is still doing a lot of work
herself with only one arm. For those of you who don't know, Leah
runs a boarding kennel to help support the
rescue and a little over a week ago was attacked by one of the
boarding dogs
(not a rescue and not a pit bull). She has been fighting an
infection and is still in a great deal of pain but is still
involved in the care of the dogs.
This flood was an unusual occurance. On my local news they said
it was a record breaking catastophic flood. Leah has also learned
that one of the neighboring businesses had filled in part of the
creek and this may have caused them to flood. Until this can be
resolved with the neighbor and county Leah will be working on a
plan to allow for temporary
evacuation of all the animals in case it becomes necessary in the
future. She has
someone who will let her use warehouse space in a high & dry
location. She'll be working to accumulate enough crates to
accomodate all of the animals and store them in the warehouse.
She'll also be looking to acquire (through donation or purchase)
a school bus or other large
vehicle to have on hand to move all of the animals. If anyone
needs to contact Leah please use the (713) 937-6229
number. Again, if she doesn't answer please leave a message. The
other
line is still not working. If you are getting an answer at that
line it is just
the voicemail. It isn't ringing through.
Please forward this message to other lists, boards and groups
where you have forwarded previous posts. Please get the word out
and let everyone know all the dogs are okay and what help is
still needed. Thanks again for all of your help, and thoughts,
wishes and prayers.
