Peggy, this is what I get upset about.  I am a firm believer that when a
dog bites, there is a reason.  We owe it to the dog to find out why.
Like the Saint that killed the kid, was killed right away, and then they
found out there was a pencil driven through its ear into it's brain, and
it reacted.  It wouldn't need to do much to kill a child, but it was in
agony when driven to this point.  Doesn't make the whole thing any
better, but at least there was a reason.

I hate to heat this up again, but this is such a dangerous game you play and
I know it is not really a game and that you are very sincere in your beliefs.
You are probably right 90% of the time.  Problem is no one knows the 10%.  I
pray none of you find out from the biting tearing end of your Pyr that loves
and really instinctively wants to protect you.  IMHO, there are some dogs
that are mentally ill.  They are not happy, in fact they are probably the
most miserable creatures on the face of the earth as they cannot control
their aberrant aggression that is in very direct conflict with their most
basic innate instinct.  Pyrs are one of the oldest LGD on the face of the
earth.  Likely descended directly from the first LGD about 8 or 9 thousand
years ago and likely themselves as a distinct breed to have been around about
5 thousand years.
I cheer for you, but I also pray for you that you, your family, or friends do
not meet up with that dog.  If you ever have been on the biting end of a Pyr,
even by mistake the power is unbelievable.  IMHO, believing what you want is
great, but much of it is based in emotion and not reality.  Everyone makes
their own decisions.  Mine is I cannot expose those I love to my inability to
accurately identify that dog in the 10%.  Think about this.  You have a gun
with ten chambers and one bullet.  This bullet you have some reason to feel
that it may not be live, but can you ever be sure?  Would any of us allow our
family to put the bullet in the gun and play Russian Roulette?  To me this is
about the same and someone (I hope it is not one of you) will see the result.
This has nothing to do with the recent thread where the dog got some
behavioral modification.  This, I have hope will be a very positive step, but
I speak of the dog from rescue that is unknown to really everyone.  JMHO.
