For those of us that would prefer our gifts to be passed on freely to those
who need help, you might consider giving to the Salvation Army. They are
trying to buy gloves and other equipment for the search and rescue workers
in New York. You might want to go to their web site and consider giving
through them.

My uncle who was in WWII said the Red Cross would be set up selling coffee,
donuts, tooth brushes, etc. to the solders, and right next to them would be
the Salvation Army providing the same things for free. It does tell you
something about how the organizations are different.
