You have our prayers and wishes that things go well. It does seem that a lot of the dogs and owners on the lists have had cancer. At the best Ivy is recovering from this bad spot and you will have her company for awhile longer. As long time pet owners we know how hard the journey can be for both dog and human. Our hearts and thoughts are with you both. I know you will enjoy your time together and grant your friend the dignity of death when it is time.

Is it just a matter of time before any one of these great white wonders of
ours succumbs? We took our Ivy Rose in last week after she'd stopped
eating for several days (not an uncommon occurrence) but then began to
throw up what she did eat, hours after the fact. She had a tumor in her
abdomen that was removed surgically on Friday and the path reports
indicate malignancy. The tumor was attached to the body wall and the
diaphram, so the surgeon could not get all the margins. We're waiting for
a consultation with the oncologist today to find out a little more about
just what kind of cancer we're dealing with and what, if anything, we can
do about it. It's a soft-tissue cancer--that's about all we know now.
We're ruling out further surgery--she's 10 years old and came through the
first round fine, but we'll not put her through it again.
This gal was so playful and lively--and already shows signs of resuming
this--that we were in denial, I guess, about her age and the possibility
(probability?) of cancer. Will update when we know more, especially to see
if others have dealt with this particular kind of tumor. It's three in a
row for us with cancers, all different--when does it get to be our turn to
have one die of old age?!!
