Re: [pyrnet] Pyr/Wolf crosses

I'm sure they can be very nice "dogs" with someone who knows what they're
doing, the same as with someone who can speak canine to a pure wolf or pure
dog.

However, and this might just be because they're one of my breeds (the other
are Cockers)....I have a real problem with anyone experimenting with
crossing Pyrs or any other Livestock Guardian Breed with wolves, coyotes,
herding breeds or even each other.

It's just too big an animal to be messing with temperaments/instincts not to
mention the moral issues of crossing and genetic diseases.

Once, a man came into the veterinary office I was working at, talking to us
about his wolf or wolf dog....I can't remember if it was pure or not.
Sounded like a relatively nice animal but as soon as the fellow found out I
had a Pyr....'oh how much he'd love to breed to her and see the big, pups we
got' and indicating something about guard dogs in a less than desirable
manner. I politely declined, completely dumbfounded and not sure how to go
about explaining the ethics of it. :-/

I'm glad there are those who *do apparently* raise wolves correctly, though.
