When Shelly got hot spots my vet told me to use a sulfa based med such as sulfadene. It worked great to stop the itching/pain. It's available everywhere - even in grocery stores. I also put her on a food with no corn, since apparently a lot of dogs are allergic to it. Since then she has never developed another hot spot.
