RE: [pyrnet] Question!

Hi Sue,

Whether or not two of the same sex will get along does not yield a simple answer.  The best answer that I can give is that it depends on the dogs.  We had three females together.  Two of the three, each wanted to be dominant.  There were some “fine” battles until dominance was established.

Presently we have two rescue bitches and on rescue male.  The male (neutered) and the youngest bitch are the best of buddies and play and romp together as the best of buddies.  The other bitch NEVER challenged the younger, even so the younger tied into the older and larger bitch a couple of times for just looking at her the wrong way.

Now, the pecking order is firmly established and all get along together without any problems…..except when it comes to food.  I have to feed the two females separately.

In the morning, the male comes in first and eats…then lays down.  I can let the younger (dominant) bitch in and she will eat without the male bothering anybody.  Then, they both get chased out the front door.  The other female will be waiting at the BACK door to come in and eat.  She knows not to do anything that might provoke a confrontation.

All this writing and you really DON’T have an answer….except it depends on the individual dogs.  We have never owned two males at the same time so I have no experience there.

Pyrs are like potato chips, you can’t eat just one….or own just one.

Good luck,

Fred
