FARMER WANTS TO HOUSE DOGS IN OLD, WINDOWLESS PIG BARN

WHAT: Two enclosed building used for 225 dogs. First building will is 40 feet by 73 feet with 88 dog pens, two dogs per pen. Pens will be 30 INCHES by 60 INCHES.
Second building is 21 feet by 66 feet with 50 whelping pens. Buildings have NO windows. Pens will be 30 INCHES by 60 INCHES. Whelping boxes will be 24 INCHES by 24 INCHES with attached wire cages on legs that will be 24 INCHES by 36 INCHES

WHY: Oppose this on simple ethical grounds. These dogs will be ENTOMBED in these WINDOWLESS BUILDINGS, CONFINED 24 HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK, 52 WEEKS A YEAR, FOR UP TO SIX YEARS, IF THEY LIVE THAT LONG. They will be driven insane due to intensive confinement, boredom, neglect and NO SOCIALIZATION by caring humans. The applicant has stated that he has no knowledge about raising dogs, and is totally relying on another puppy mill owner for guidance in this operation. They will be used as breeding machines. After being killed they will be composted in the field and used for fertilizer on crop growing acres.
WHAT YOU MUST DO TODAY:
E-MAIL Penn Township Zoning Officers at penntwsp@dejazzd.com to deny approval of this puppy mill. Send an email to the zoning officer, Thomas Ernharth and to EACH of the zoning board members: Gerald Quinn, Frank Smolar, Jr. and James Shreiner
A hearing was held on September 8th and was continued to tonight. Many residents and opponents were not given the chance to have their voices heard. Both sides have hired attorneys. At the very least, urge the zoning board to postpone the hearing until more testimony can be heard.
There are already several huge puppy mills in the locale ? we don?t WANT or need another one.
