I appreciate all the suggestions. :) She has never been rough with me either when she does use her paw, I am just always afraid she will knock someone over..
Yes I am learning abut the dis-a-pyr.. :) When we first had her in the pen she would get out all the time no matter what.. We called her our "shape shifter".. Now that we have another dog, she hasn't gotten out at all..
I am just concrened as I say when we get the sheep.. We will have the pasture fenced--it is already, just needs to be re-inforced for sheep.. But keeping her on the property will be our biggest challenge I think.. She will go to anyone and I have made sure she has a tag on with our name and number--that saved us twice before when she got out and someone called us. :)

So you have met the "paw". You use your hands, so do many pyrs. I had better luck teaching my dogs that if I were wearing dressy clothes or a suit that the paw was not to be used. Sounds odd but it did solve our problem, my clothes were not ruined and the dogs could still use the paw. I also make a point of being sure I dress at the last minute before I leave the house and change into jeans or cords very soon after returning.
A pyr off a leash is a "dis-a-pyr". "Come" has not been an easy concept here either, but I am finding that after several months, Charlie has caught on and when he sees me coming toward him, he races over to me. I cannot explain why he suddenly understands but eventually it does just click.
A fence would keep both the sheep and the dog home but this may not be practical.

I am at a loss as to how to get my Great Pyr Lady to stop putting her foot on me when I pet her.. She is very good and sits before she is petted, but then she like paws at you. I have tried putting her foot back down and saying "no" and I am doing that over and over every day, but so far no luck..
Also if she gets out of her pen (which is pretty good size by the way), she won't come when you call her. I Have tried treats, going and getting her, and no luck..
We live out in the country and while we do want her to guard our sheep when we get them, farmers around here shoot dogs if they come on their property.
any suggestions?
