Re: [pyrnet] Agressive behavior

It is a logical solution.  There is no dietary purpose to rawhide, in fact it has been known to cause blockages in some dogs :(    My guys have not seen rawhide bones or anything for that matter in over 7 yrs.  My solution would be not to give the rawhide at all :)  JMO
I suppose the concern would be that fact that this aggressive nature shows up at all and a simple solution (other than taking away the rawhide) is probably ideal.  I worked very hard with my rescued pyr (Mushu) to solve this behaviour.  I will not tolerate food type aggressions in a dog.  The ultimate failure is to have your dog attack some innocent with the offending treat.  Mushu will now allow any treasured treat to be taken from his bowl by just about anyone.  Do I trust him??  NO!  But....I still set him up so that we work through this problem, I use a lot of obedience signals and if he doesn't obey then the treat is not given at that time.  If he allows me or even one of the ferrets to steal his treat then he gets the treat back and another treat as well.  That way he understands that if he surrenders his treats, he always gets more.  He may have gone hungry in his previous home but he doesn't go hungry here (he thinks he does LOL...he's a real tummy hound)

I am without a doubt the newest guy on the block when it comes to LGD behavior and if this is just to simple a solution someone help me understand why.

Strikes me that the answer to the issue is no rawhide ever period end of dialogue. Am I missing something in the need for the rawhide?
