Re: [pyrnet] Re: does anyone shave their pyrs?

Thanks for the info Rachel!

I really like his fur the way it is! hehe So, I won't be shaving him. I'll go ahead and get his tummy shaved though. I just brought him to the groomer about 2 mths ago to get all that undercoat out. I was just hoping to try to make him a little more comfortable. But I think shaving his tummy will be just what he needs. I have wooden floors so that will feel good against his skin. Thanks again Rachel!

Hi Jessica!

Yes, shaving the coat will change the texture of the coat.  It will make it woollier and mat more easily.  That said, I live in Arkansas where it is hot and humid in the summer and wet and muddy in the winter.  So, I keep my Pyr shaved all the time.  Since I don't ever let his coat grow longer then an inch or two, the change in his coat texture doesn't matter.  If you like your Pyr fluffy, I would suggest not shaving him.  Just try to keep his undercoat brushed out really well and shave his stomach so, when he lays down, he can feel the cool ground more easily.

Take care,

Rachel

I live in Louisiana and even though my pry stays inside most of the time, it's still miserable for him I'm sure.

I was wanting to shave him just for the summer but I've read that it can mess up their fur. It could ruin their insulation or something like that. I've only had him clipped a little, nothing major and was just checking to see what you all do with your pyrs for the summer.
