Re: [pyrnet] Does your Pry like swimming? And a POOL WARNING.

You must have been horrified. It is indeed fortunate you were standing there.

Some of my Pyrs have enjoyed the pool - usually when we had a Newf. I too have had to teach most of my Pyrs to practically hate the pool to prevent mishaps. I just do not see another way around the issue or fear.

I had a dog somehow slip UNDER a pool cover in the winter and for the life of me I have no idea how that happened, all I know is that if I hadn't been standing there in the yard to see it and hadn't gone in to save him he would have drowned.  I would have thought he had run away and tragically found him dead the following spring when I reopened the pool.  As it was he almost killed me trying to get him out in his panic.  From that time on I trained my dogs to NEVER come near the pool even if we were in it.  I was very harsh and very firm about that and we always kept a small fence around it, even in our fenced yard. We treated them like toddlers who weren't responsible for the decisions they made.
