Re: [pyrnet] Ear infections

Thanks Kelly, I go from Blue Buffalo, Pinnacle, and Natural Balance. The time he was on the ear meds, I started him on the fish and potato-Natural Balance, so not sure if that helped. After that bag, I bought Pinnacle. But I just bought him a new bag of Natural Bal-fish and potato. I'm going to keep him on that one to see if it helps.

Not sure what you are feeding him. I changed my pyrs to a fish and potato food after having ear troubles and that did the trick. You might want to try changing the food.

My Pyr has been having reoccuring ear infections. The first time I brought him in for it, they said there was also yeast present. They gave me some drops along with TrizeDTA flush. It went away, but not long afterwards came back. I brought him in again and they said there was no yeast but a whole lot of bacteria. (It's only in his right ear. Never had any problems with the left ear.) He prescribed the strongest ear medicine they had and told me to put drops in his ear twice a day and do the flush once a day. Well, after just a few days, it was already clearing up! I was so happy. Well, I was told to go back for a checkup after two weeks to make sure it was all gone. I went back and he said his ear looked fine. He told me to continue doing the flush for a few weeks though. I did that and not long into doing so his ears started building back up with dark brown stinky ear wax.

I still had some of the ear medicine left so I started back up on that. After just a few days, his ears were clearing up again. Not long after I finished the ear meds, it started again. I'm bringing him back into the vet tomorrow and he's supposed to do an ear culture. Hopefully we can nip this in the bud finally. Anyone else having this problem that can give me some suggestions? I'm so tired of fighting with this and I'm sure Gandalf is as well.
