Eagle has Landed (was Re: [WW] Censorship Test)
I saw The Eagle has Landed for the first time a couple
of months ago, and found it to be both thought
provoking and a highly entertaining war movie (making
a very rare film).
The reason it's thought provoking is that the Germans
aren't jack-booted Na-- thugs, but are actually
sympathetic. I won't reveal plot points, but the
Germans (their commander is played by Michael Caine)
are a good example of competent and honorable soldiers
who have the poor fate of working for the wrong side.
If you're looking for fodder for how to make good
opponents for a WW game, The Eagle has Landed is a
good starting point.
The cast puts in very high caliber performances, and
includes the aforementioned Michael Caine, Donald
Sutherland as an IRA operative working with the
Germans, Robert Duvall as the German Colonel
overseeing the operation, Donald Pleasence as a creepy
as hell Heinrich Himmler, Larry Hagman as an inept
American Colonel, and a young Treat Williams as a
competent American Captain.
