I once met a French soldier who, after being a prisoner of war in Eastern
Germany, was captured by russians. He was deported and only came back after
1956 (sadly, I don't remember the exact year). He has been working in
prisoner camps from 1940 to 1944, and then in a goulag from 1944 to 1956...
in spite of the fact he was French and supposedly allied with URSS (fighting
the same ennemy).

I also read a book, written by a man who stayed more than 20 years in
Goulags. I'll have to get my hands on it, to give you references. This man
was quite exceptionnal, and when he came back, he was speaking 18 languages,
most of these the result of being in contact with prisonners from other
countries. His book is a kind of dictionnary about life in goulags. I'm sure
it is full of ideas for eastern based campaigns.
