Re: [WW] Monsters,Creatures and Weird Science
Ok... thought I'd jump in on this one before dawn comes.
Vampires could easily be in hiding from both the Axis and the Allies, manipulating which ever side suits their needs. They could be High ranking SS commanders creating their very special night-time only unit. Imagine a Master vampire who seeks out qualified personel and turns them into (low leveled) vampires. They would be feared, because of the stories that might be told of them.
Werewolves could do the same, or could be individuals selected as guardians to the Vampiric commanders.
All the classic monsters could exist and be referred to as rumors, or hogwash that no one truly believes. Because anyone who has gone one on one with them has never returned, at least... alive.
Other monsters such as Kobolds, dwarvers(yes... they could be monsters), can be used as story as well. Germanic mythology/history refers to Redcaps and of course dwarvish smithies. Perhaps the Axis have discovered a settlement of either one, particularly a dwarvish encampment deep in the mountains and have made an "alliance", have them forge weapons and armor(not personal, or maybe in rare occasions) for the Axis Machine. Imagine a few Mithril tanks or halftracks going into a skirmish unscathed.
If we can remember the history of many of the creatures used in D&D, we can easily use them in this setting as well. Explainations aside, you will not(as the GM) have time to explain the why's and what-fors of every encounter. That's what NPC's are for and other sources are available for your players(who do the "footwork" of investigation).
Just my two cents,
Bobby
PS just thought of this one. Imagine the germanic legends of Giants. heh heh talk about a morale problem for the Allies. "...but Sir! He just stepped on A company! How do we fight that?!"
