[WW] Lady Be Good
There's the tale of a haunted B-17 in the works which
reminds me of the "Lady Be Good" story. The American
History Channel replays the story now and again.
The Lady Be Good was a B-24 that took part in a
bombing raid against naval targets in Naples in 1943.
The plane never returned to its base and was presumed
lost. Yet, in 1958 geologists surveying the Libyan
desert located the missing aircraft and began a search
for the lost crew.

Here would be an interesting hook for a story set in
the Med. The crew became lost it would appear, on way
to the target. Perhaps soon after the crash of the
Lady Be Good a ghostly B-24 can sometimes be seen
attempting to complete her mission over and over
again. Perhaps the B-24 is instead trying to find her
way back to her base and at night ghostly lights can
be seen desperately searching for what they'll never
find.
Your PC's are in the desert and find themselves a lost
crew member. The crew member tells of a crash landing
and of others like him searching for help. Your PC's
follow the crew member deeper into the desert looking
for the others and for the aircraft crash site. While
they search the original survivor becomes paler and
paler till he's almost transparent, then he's gone.
Your PC's are now the ones lost in the desert. The
spectres of the Lady Be Good's crew only want to go
home, little do they know they're taking others to
their deaths along the way.
If you read about the recovery of the aircraft you'll
see how certain items taken from the aircraft may have
bought doom along with them. Perhaps the plane itself
is now cursed and all those who trespass against her
will share the curse?
Of the nine crew persons, only eight were recovered.
Where is the final poor soul? Could he find your PC's
and lead them to recover the others as his final act?
Weird Wars can be about making right what went wrong
as well as fighting the darkness directly. ;-)
Cheers,
Mr.B
