Re: Re: [WW] First WeirdWars Session

Amen. That book is an excellent example of how to work a supernatural level of weirdness into the already terrible machinery of warfare. Sean's favorite story (which is also my favorite) is a Weird Wars adventure just begging to be played.

If you haven't read it yet, I'd suggest getting a copy of "The Military
Dimension Mark II" by David Drake. Drake is a military sci fi writer,
who served in Vietnam, and a few of the stories in there are horror
stories set in Vietnam.

Some spoilers for Military Dimension.

The biggest trick he'd do was set up a situation where the arty or air
support isn't available. For example, one story has a group of GIs
facing what seems to be some Elder horror. They have to make it long
enough to get a B-52 strike in but they're not going to make it just by
hiding, and if they run it won't hit. Yet another features demonics
natives with mystical trees and my favorite has a typical squad that has
a vampire type creature in it.
