[WW] [DAK] To the shooting range

> Upon being issued my 98k, I open the bolt, feeling it for proper
> function/movement, checking the barrel to make sure its not fouled, and
> quickly checking the sights to see if they are bent. Upon completion of the
> rapid inspection of the 98k, I return to formation, and stand at attention,
> awaiting further orders.

"Good to see we have some soldiers who remember their basic training",
the Feldwebel nods to Steiner.

After getting the stragglers into the process, Kowalski has you fall
into line again. Leafing through the papers the Unteroffizier was
filling out, he mumbles something to himself...

"Okay, listen up. Looks like we have lots a strange people and
specialties here. When I hate something, it's disorder. So for now,
I'll just consider each and every one of you a green infantryman.
We'll see soon enough, who is capable and who is not. Just a reminder:
those who slack turn up six feet under the earliest. We want to win
this war fast and then go back home in one peace. Right?"

Not waiting for an answer he continues:

"Today we'll march out to the shooting range. There you will receive
ammunition and work your magic on 'Pappkameraden'. Mind - those
neither move nor do they shoot back. It's something to get you
acquainted with your personal weapons. And I might get to see, whether
one of you is a real hotshot."

"After that, those qualified for automatic weapons will get to shoot
the MP 40 and the MG 34. Just for you greenlings: If your machine gun
talks, the enemy will stop to listen. If it's gone, you will likely be
soon, too. So whoever is going to be our heavy weapons specialists -
help them do their job well."

"Lastly you get to throw a few rocks. Are we out of ammo? Not yet. But
before I hand you live hand grenades, I want to be sure you don't drop
them on your own feet. Or mine, for that matter".

"Any Questions?"

<insert your questions here> ;-)

"Ok. Then lets roll. LINKS UM! OHNE TRITT MARSCH!"

On the way to the shooting range (everything still in the glaring
sun), you get a chance to acquaint yourselves somewhat with each
other.

<insert your acquaintance efforts here> ;-).

Arriving at the shooting range after a brisk 30-min walk, you see it
is not much of an affair. Actually it is a 300 m long and 50 m wide
field, filled with sand and stones. In the back there is a sand wall,
probably good for stopping the ordnance that gets to there.

On the nearer end, there is a line of ten sand sacks, which obviously
marks the line where shooters have to stand. At a table under a canvas
to protect him against the sun, an Obergefreiter guarded by two
soldiers armed with MPs waits to give out ammo.

You each receive a box of 25 rounds and the first ten are ordered to
approach the firing line. "Load!" You topload the first 5 rounds of
7,92 mm ammunition into the internal magazine.

"You are to combat the first row of targets at point blank range,
standing up. On my command, you will fire five shots and then lay down
your weapon with an open lock."

"5 Schuss Einzelfeuer, Feuer frei!"

ooc: The first manshaped targets are at 50 m (150 feet for our gaming
purposes). They are AC 10. You get a conditional bonus of +4 (They are
not moving anywhere ;-). On each cardboard target there are target
rings in the chest. The better you shoot, the more points you
accumulate.

Fire your first 5 shots and with those shots explain, what AC you will
hit. Please send these mails to me personally (not to the list). I
will aggregate the results and give them out on the list.

Note: Change to the point blank shot feat! Point blank range is not 30
feet, but determined by the first range increment of the weapon you
are handling. For a rifle like the Gewehr 98k that would be 120 feet
(40 meters). With the Far Shot feat it would be 180 feet (60 meters).

Mit freundlichen Gruessen,

Arne Reuter
