[WW] Novels by John Antal

For prospective PC's of rank out there, there are a
series of books written by John Antal which may prove
interesting. The books are set in a modern world so
for potential use the technology would have to be
stepped back to 1940's level. Sorry, no A-10's and
M1-A2's for the PC's.

Titled - "Armour Attacks," "Infantry Combat," and
"Combat Team" they're a set of books dealing with
three different command situations. I've only found
two of the three (Combat Team and Armour Attacks) so
far but the third has to be out there some where.

The books are styled along the lines of those 80's
Choose Your Own Adventure novels where you read a bit,
choose an option from those given, and then move on
along your selected path. The author was/is a tanker
himself so writes from a position of experience.

Armour Attacks poses the reader as a commander of a
tank platoon (four tanks?) while Combat Team has the
reader as the leader of a mechanised company (two tank
platoons and two bradley platoons).

For those PC's who want a small taste of what it is
like to be in command, sit them down with one of the
novels and walk them through. Make them decide on the
path of their mission and what choices they will make.

For the WM's out there, you could read the novels and
make note of what pitfalls and developments you could
spring on your PC's as they move about occupied
Europe.

Antal also came out with a novel the other year based
around a resumption of the war in Korea (also well
represented by "Red Phoenix" written by Larry Bond). A
decent read if a little heavy on the technical jargon
and inferred sheer superiority of anything American
made when in combat.

Cheers,
Mr. B
