[WW] Re: Multiple Characters

It is through dialectic that the perfect game system
will arise!

I have a scenario idea that I have been playing with
since Lace & Steel about ten years ago [1] and at the
moment I am thinking of running it with BRP/CoC set
during the Napoleonic Wars. I should perhaps try it
with D20/Weirdwars instead [2].

The players take the parts of crew on a warship sent
on a special mission with sealed orders, the original
idea was inspired by a Hornblower story - the one most
recently televised.

What makes it relaxant is the idea that the PCs have
more than one character. While their main characters
are the lieutenants and marine officers they will have
other characters who may just be ordinary seamen or
marines. The idea is that on something like a cutting
out expedition or a shore party where only one or two
lieutenants are along the other players can run a
secondary character.

This avoids the Star Trek problem of the whole command
crew going along with the shore party.

This is something I would do with any setting that
required a large group - including weirdwars.

Notes
1. Strangely enough I could accept Lace & Steel's
fantasy Europe when the one with 7th Sea annoyed me
immensely - and was quickly abandoned in favour of
real + fantasy history.

2. There is at least one D20 pirate game out and
another, eagerly awaited, in the pipeline. I have one
ordered but even without it I reckon I know the period
well enough to easily run it. All I need are a few
stats: cutlass, tomahawk, knife, sword, half-pike,
pistol, musket, blunderbuss, volley gun and various
cannons. These I already have in the various D20 books
or I can easily extrapolate them.
