Double-tapping seems to be a quite specific technique
that has become widely known about but little
understood. I think the problem is in part that it has
quite a nice sounding name. Just add a journalist
looking for a sensational story and voila.

I am sure you could come up with a very long list of
other things that have suffered in the same way and
not just in the firearms field.

I think 'double tapping' is a modern development,
certainly I can't remember hearing about it until a
few years ago, but this not not mean that it was not
being used, just that it did not have a name and such popularity.
