Actually... I found it an apt analogy if you consider it from the viewpoint
of "character concept."

BNW players are at the moment of creation, the "First Amazing Issue," if you
will,  when they start out, just like Ol' Webhead was way back in the early
60's. He was just a three trick pony way back then, too. Marvel has had 30+
years to play with him (clones, extra arms, cosmic powers, new suits, d8
girlfriends, etc...). If a BNW player were able to run a character for an
equal subjectively long time span, I'm sure lots of "weird" stuff would
happen.
