I wouldn't expect that to happen. The BNW system is meant to use only d6's
because as complex as the system may be, it's still meant to give players
the opportunity to buy the book and then hunt through the closet to find
some old dice in a Yahtzee or Monopoly game and get right into it. The idea
of upgrading to d8's or higher probably won't happen in the BNW universe.
And since all the expansions to BNW would have to be pretty compatible with
one another the idea of d8's or higher existing in Crossroads probably won't
happen either. But then again, what do I know?
As far as alphas having to roll gobs of d6's for their traits, I think they
will probably still only have a maximum of 5d6 base for any one trait. They
just have outrageous modifiers.
Example :
Stregnth : 5d6+30
Speed : 4d6+45
Smarts : 3d6+20
Spirit : 5d6+50
And any other modifiers you'd like to tack on for tricks and power packages
etc.
You think a goliath with stregnth 5d6+5 hurts? Just wait untill an alpha
comes barreling at you with 5d6+45 !! Youch!!
