Actually the next step is that the head scientist at the company has
discovered that ALL humans have the delta-gene, and the beta-gene and the
alpha-gene. Unfortunately the player killed that scientist and he doesn't
know it, but the only copy of the scientist's work is on his laptop which
the player stuffed into his duffle bag.
So now the company (MedTech) wants the player (Decker) because:
A. he is the only one that has survived the conversion to beta, yet
B. he's carrying the only copy of the late doctor's data
C. he doesn't know it, but he has a lot of info in his head that could
   really damage the company
D. he's killed a BUNCH of the company's people in trying to escape and
   stay escaped

The epsilon thing sounds kinda neat, but I branched in a different
direction I guess. I'm not to worried about staying with the source
material (hell they say that no one knows for sure where delta powers come
from). Besides if AEG clarrifies a whole bunch of stuff and doesn't mesh
with mine at all and I decided to go with that I can always say the Dr's
research was wrong :)
