What if the engineer suddenly sees a giant, man-shaped figure standing on the tracks about fifty yards down the line. He blasts his whistle but the figure only raises an arm and points at the train. The engineer's eyes go glassy and he immediately slams on the brakes. He then heads back to the passenger car, touching other people as he goes, and each person touched falls into a similar trance; they exit the train, form a line, and begin walking due south. This quickly spreads through most all the passengers, as any victim that touches or is touched by someone else will "infect" them as well. All non-Indians affected by this strange "disease" will march south nonstop until they die of exhaustion or lack of food.

Posse members that head down the track to confront the giant face a startling sight: what looked to be a 15-foot tall Indian brave is actually a twisted, monstrous combination of six Cherokee warriors, their bodies fused together in a roughly humanoid shape (two of them are the torso/head, the others serving as an arm or a leg). The abomination also has razor-sharp claws and carries a huge club that vaguely resembles a tomahawk.

This creature used to be a band of braves that were forced to march the Trail of Tears more than forty years ago, and didn't survive the journey. Their hatred of the white man was so strong that their spirits remained to haunt the earth until just recently, when the Reckoners gave them physical form again. Now the monster uses its powers to force whites to march to their deaths, and the only way the posse can break the trance is to either kill the creature or reason with it and convince it to stop. In either case, the abomination has only one weakness: an honest apology--made by any white man--for the entire Cherokee relocation will strip it of its powers and invulnerability.
