Re: [DL] "Is it evil?"

First of all I will state that, I never quite understand the desire to play
evil characters in any game - but that's just me.

I personally don't see Deadlands as a game in which evil characters are
viable within the normal confines of the game. The game is set up for
heroes that are out to reduce the fear level and stop the Reckoners plots
and sources of fear/power. I mean, why can people be an Eternal Hero in the
game and not an Eternal Evil? The game just isn't set out for playing evil
characters.

I like the part in the Book O' The Dead, where it suggests getting one of
the Reckoners agents to visit a harrowed character who has been doing evil
things (raising fear levels etc) and congratulating them on the job they are
doing. If this doesn't jolt a character into changing their ways I would
quite happily take the character off him, with some dramatic ending when the
rest of the posse see him turn to the dark side, of course.

Hmmm, yes Sandor, just don't use as a moral reminder, ok. :)

I actually have a tainted character in my campaign, who is trying to resist
the slippery slope to the dark side. If his player eventually decides that
he loses the fight and gives into the taint, it will happen at some
appropriately dramatic point, that will shock the rest of the posse. The
player has already voiced that he would expect to retire the character at
that point and make up a new one, because it doesn't fit with the game.
