[DL] Wedding Shemp?

OK, so I finally just saw The Quick & the Dead all the way through, and
the credits list Bruce Campbell as playing the "wedding shemp."  Does
anyone here know what the Hell a wedding shemp is?  Is it just some
Western slang that I'm unfamiliar with?
