Methinks the newbies (I do realise I fall into that category, obviously) 
have opened up the proverbial can of (harrowed?) worms.

May I suggest, before the old-timers have a collective aneurism, that y'all
mail someone privately and ask them to explain it? I've got a feeling that
this is one of those things which just got out of hand and probably
shouldn't be dredged up again.

Would this be in an archive somewhere?
