Servitors are like super-Abominations. They were all humans (with one
exception) who willingly committed particularly evil acts. Hence, the
Reckoners invest a lot of energy and badness into them to help "spread
the word (or Fear)." Every Servitor follows one particular
Reckoner...I'll get to that in a second.

The REckoners are the big guys behind all of this. In HoE, they come out
of the Hunting Grounds after a nuclear war. They either are the Four
Horsemen of the Apocalypse, as mentioned in the Bible, or they have just
taken their forms (the books are a little unclear on that). Each has his
(or her, Famine appears to be female) own type of fear to perpetuate:
Death, War, Famine and Pestilence.

In HoE, there are critters called wormlings, a kind of humanoid worm that
walks on two legs/tentacles and spits acid. They're formed by pumping
rattler DNA into
human captives deep in rattler lairs. I don't know if they pointed this
out in Deadlands, but the older and larger rattlers are intelligent, and
formulated this plan to make a slave race.

They do exist, but are very rare. Knowledge like that doesn't get passed
along easily in modern times, plus they have an extra hard time casting
hexes because of some particularly strong manitous in the world after the
War. They only Deadlands arcane background that doesn't exist anymore
are Mad Scientists, because the manitous stopped giving away the
technological secrets. Blessed are rare, because a lot of people lost
their faith when the world ended. Shamans are still around, mainly
because the Old Ways Indians weren't harmed that much by the War. There
are also new shamans that deal with mutated nature and insect spirits.
