In the City of Gloom box set it mentions that The Ancient One (the king of
the rattlers) captured live humans and had the queens use their spiked
tentacles to draw the juice out of them. He wanted to use the human essence
to produce a "worm man". As of 1876 he hasn't been successful (i.e. the
queen's larvae haven't changed yet).
