RE: [DL] Single Action/Double Action/Gattling Weapons
Jesse,
Lets look at the numbers (odds from Allan's web site):
Gunman A - skill 5d12 shooting a double action pistol
Gunman B - skill 5d12 shooting a gattling pistol
TN = 5
Gunman A - hits twice (.995 * .995) = 99.0 %
Gunman B - hits twice 76.2 % with about a 30% chance of
all three shots hitting.
Pretty Good for the Gattling so far, but lets look
at:
TN = 7
Gunman A - hits twice (.968 * .968) = 93.7 %
Gunman B - hits twice TN=12 35.2 %
DA weapon has more than twice the chance of hitting with
both bullets, and we have only increase the TN by 2. That
happens frequently in our combats, in fact often the bad
guys show up at night when the TNs are higher. The odds of a
bust are 0.5% for gattling and about 1% for DA.
Now the example we've done is for 5d12 in
shooting, which is the upper range for a gun fighter. If
we picked a more reasonable range, like 3d10 for shooting
and a TN=5, the gattling has a 27% chance of hitting with both
bullets. This discrepancy increase as the TN increase
and the skill decreases.
Also, realize that for moderately high TNs like 10. A DA
weapon has a much better chance of hitting
at least once than either a SA or Gattliong weapon.
These points are especially valid for a Mad Scientist who will not
have as high of a shooting skill.
