I recommend TextPad - it will let you create your own
shortcuts, and for those of us who dislike reading
everything in Courier, you can alter view font as
well.

This is what I did.  Sure, it's taken my six months to
get nothing more than the basic structure and
coloring, but I've learned an AWFUl lot.  Go get "Web
Design In A Nutshell" by O'Reilly, it's been a great
reference.  And don't forget to view the source on
anything you see that you like, and then take the time
to figure it out.  I figured out Java scripts and
style sheets by liberally gacking from a friend.  :)
